Emmanuel Levinas was born in Kaunas (Lithuania) on January 12, 1906 – 15 Tevet, 5666. A gala evening in honor of his centennial will be held at the Jerusalem Theater, one of the main cultural poles of Israeli cultural life, on his birthday according to the Hebrew calendar. This gala evening of official tributes and entertainment will focus on Emmanuel Levinas the person, his life, his work as a thinker, an educator, and the impact of his work in modern society and as such will be a fitting way to inaugurate the Levinas centennial events in Israel.
